Noting that the Tribunal had realized significant achievements in connection with its mandate by ensuring the arrest and trial of some of the most notorious genocide suspects, by gaining the cooperation of an increasing number of countries and by combating the culture of impunity, the Group looked forward to the forthcoming conclusion of the military trial, which would constitute a further majorachievement.

In a city with many finemosques,Jumeirah Mosque is the largest, and arguably the most beautiful.

One of these projects, the UNESCO-UNDP Rehabilitation of the Al-Askari Shrine in Samara, deserves mention as one of the most visible and important United Nations interventions in the country, as the destruction of the Shrine, in 2006, was the trigger for major sectarian conflict and its reconstruction is touted regularly by the government as a powerful symbol of national reconciliation.

If the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to independence, sovereignty and selfdetermination is recognized; if the need to re-establish the exercise of the human rights of Palestinians is recognized; if the blockade of Gaza, the economic coercion and segregation symbolized by the infamous wall are recognized as crimes; if the subjugation of a nation to conditions jeopardizing its very existence is described as genocide; if all Member States are supposed to adopt all legal measures within their reach to protect Palestinian civilians, then the General Assembly should take actionnow.

In Sarajevo, the nation’s capital, major temples representing each religion are located only 500 meters apart.

They therefore recommend that UNESCO should play a key role in the mapping of partners (identifying who does what and characterizing the gaps), and that it should help identify and highlight the gaps which stand in the way of realizing the EFA goals at the global, regional and country levels – in particular the policy gap, the data gap, the funding gap, the capacity gap and the advocacy gap (see Table 2).

The Group received information from intelligence sources in FARDC and from civil society, former child soldiers and local leaders in Bukavu and Uvira that the most notorious recruiters of child soldiers included Mai Mai Yakutumba (in Fizi and Ubwari), Mai Mai Mbwasakala (from Swima and Tobolo), Mai Mai Mutomboki (from Shabunda), Mai Mai Shombo/Mupongwe (in Marungu), Mai Mai Tawimbi (from Bijombo), Mai Mai Mpenkenyo and Mai Mai Kapopo.
