Through the organization of research on the key trade issues of the region, the dissemination of policy briefs and working papers and the organization of capacitybuilding workshops and seminars, the Network has successfully convened a large number of researchers from across the region; produced high-quality demand-driven studies; enhanced the research capacity of the region, in particular that of the least developed countries; and forged a close linkage between research and policymaking.

Under the Tangible Cultural Heritage project, a large collection of sacred Haitian voodoo objects are being catalogued and documented, constituting an important resource in the study of Haitian culture and religion.

A host of concrete proposals were suggested to the coordinators of the Dialogue, such as: dialogue and networking among universities; dialogue among young scientists, involving UNESCO chairholders in dialogue activities; dialogue among student journalists and seasoned media practitioners from both regions; the holding of youth forums; reactivation of the Committee for the Translation of Literary Works and increase in the translation of Arabic works into European languages; a comparative study of school textbooks; dialogue involving professionals from cultural industries; the organization of an interregional conference on the image of Arab-Islamic culture in European history books.

In contrast, female migrants remain underrepresented in Asia, largely because the major receiving countries in Western and South-eastern Asia are the destination of significant numbers of contract workers, most of whom are men.

It has a host of features that ensures extremely easy, fast, and secure management of large groups of thin clients with lots of local protocol clients and software tools spread over large WANs.

The crises besetting many countries of the region have worsened an already precarious security situation, particularly in the Sahel region, due to the vast numbers of weapons, repatriated refugees, the appearance of new terrorist groups, the illicit transfer of arms and rising crime, as mentioned in the report of the assessment mission on the impact of the Libyan crisis on the Sahel region (S/2012/42).

The Group should bring together in Geneva – the birthplace of the Group of 77 and China, and UNCTAD – an unprecedented assembly of leaders and intellectuals to recommit the international community to the ideals of development and a better future for all.
