Several delegations reported on newly introduced policies and programmes to enhance rights-based disability-inclusive development in the region, including the introduction of anti-discrimination laws, official recognition and promotion of sign language, the expansion of education for persons with hearing impairment as well as efforts to provide cash transfers to persons with disabilities living in poverty and comprehensive medical and rehabilitation services.

The Company will also transfer the business of the F-Co Products Department, which manufactures wire and cable terminals and electrically insulating materials for processing connections in the Company’s Energy Division, and the business of the Electric Feeders Department, which manufactures bus ducts, which are systems for supplying large currents to buildings and plants, to FEPS through the Demerger in April 2013 so that the Group will expand its electrical equipment business and will provide optimal solutions to meet the diversified needs of customers.

The report highlighted the relevance and value of mobile technologies for economic and social impact, examined key principles for becoming agile and ubiquitous, emphasized the importance of policy and governance models, and will assist Governments in the process of developing sustainable implementations of m-government and optimizing the range of possibilities for extending the outreach, efficiency and effectiveness of public services to citizens in efficient and inclusive ways.

He took it that the Conference wished to adopt the section entitled “Conclusions of the Conference”.

That text was never acted upon by the Assembly, in particular because, at around the same time, the Council adopted its presidential note, contained in document S/2006/507.

May I therefore take it that the Assembly wishes to declare those States nominated by the Economic and Social Council — Argentina, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Cuba, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Italy, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Republic of Moldova, Uruguay and Zimbabwe — elected members of the Committee for Programme and Coordination for a three-year term of office beginning on 1 January 2012?

In my capacity as Chair of the high-level round table, I request that the “Rio Action Plan” be part of the report of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, under agenda item 10, and that it be circulated as a document of the Conference, along with the present letter, also under agenda item 10.

The Special Committee feels that the allocation of items to committees might be effected in a less rigid manner and that questions which may be considered as falling within the competence of two or more committees should preferably be referred to the committee with the lightest agenda.

In the Medical Services Section, the establishment of 15 additional national posts (6 National Officers and 9 national General Service staff) is proposed, as the Section has over the past years expanded the services it provides, which include round-the-clock operation of the UNOCI headquarters clinic, which is now functioning at level I-plus rather than the previous level I; patients are followed up at their homes after discharge from level III hospitals; patients are regularly visited in the 11 level III hospitals in Abidjan and in Sector West and Sector East; doctors in the regional headquarters perform outreach activity by visiting remote offices twice a week; support is provided to the Government during important functions and to the United Nations country team as part of the United Nations integrated framework; and medical support is proposed to be provided eight hours a day at the logistics base in Koumassi as opposed to the current two hours a day.

In the light of the lack of response by the General Assembly of the United Nations and of action by Member States, the Director-General considers that the General Conference may wish to consider that the report provided to the Executive Board, which outlines a detailed and structured programme of action for promoting a dialogue among peoples in UNESCO’s domains, which corresponds to the intention and objectives of the proclamation of an International Year of Global Consciousness and the Ethics of Dialogue Among Peoples.

Because this has become a common trend in large-scale mining, the concept of ecological and social debt is gaining ground in the discussion on development and sustainability in the South.

The Advisory Committee notes that the resources are related to maintaining the telecommuting infrastructure for Headquarters for 1,100 critical staff, supporting virtual meeting infrastructure for the General Assembly, the Security Council and the Secretary-General, expanded videoconferencing and the maintenance of Citrix accounts and access licences (see also para. 15 above).

The continued delay in adopting the legislation is a concern, given the contentious nature of most land disputes, many of which have led to violent confrontations between opposing groups and communities.

Although the State was the most important source of social protection, according to Mr. Hao (although Mr. Kim argued that bigger companies, universities, and hospitals must also share in that responsibility), how best to do so, such as through economic growth or targeted programmes, was hotly debated, as the examples from Australia, Bangladesh and Nicaragua illustrated.

The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan considers the use of most types of weapons of mass destruction as contrary to international norms, and seeks universal disarmament of all nuclear and conventional weapons.
