The Observer from OIE informed the Commission that in OIE’s Terrestrial Animal Health Code, Section on Identification and Traceability of Live Animals, reference was made to relevant Codex texts.

Improved intervention strategies have now been developed to overcome the challenges identified by previous generations of projects, which included: lack of adaptation of technical solutions to local values or materials, as well as high costs of proposed techniques; implementation of technical facilities (such as centralized mercury mills for gold amalgamation) without proper consideration of local demand and local dynamics of the mining communities; and dilution of the effect of awareness-raising campaigns due to rapid changes in mining populations.

The Commission has also requested the Secretariat to continue exploring alternative sources of extrabudgetary funding, in particular by more extensively engaging permanent missions, as well as other possible partners in the public and private sectors (A/66/17, paras. 258-259).

However, considering past trends and current predictions, the sustainability of the aquaculture sector is more likely to be closely linked to the sustained supply of terrestrial animal and plant proteins, oils and carbohydrate sources for aquafeeds.

Feed ingredients used for the production of aquafeeds are broadly categorized into three types depending upon their origin: animal nutrient sources (including both aquatic and terrestrial animals); plant nutrient sources; and microbial nutrient sources.

Thus, the Chinese central government has been trying very hard to stimulate local environmental commitments by enacting freedom of information regulations and evaluating local environmental performance.

Of the enterprises that have been interviewed, 62.5% believe that piracy has significantly reduced the government’s tax revenues; 12.5% hold that piracy has reduced the government’s tax revenue, but on a minor scale; 6.25% believe that piracy has had little effect on the government’s tax revenue; and 18.75% hold that piracy has increased local governments’ tax revenues (see Chart 3.3). The preceding group of interviewees believes that, given the role of piracy in driving the economic vitality of local cities, and in creating local employment opportunities as well as in increasing local tax revenues, local government officials have acquiesced to, and connived at piracy to different extents, out of short-term interests of their localities.
