He welcomed the recent release of the Nuclear Posture Review by the United States Government and the latter’s commitment to seeking ways to reduce the role of nuclear weapons while maintaining a safe and secure deterrent capability; the signing of the new strategic arms reduction treaty between the United States and Russia; the April 2010 Nuclear Security Summit, at which measures to reduce the threat of nuclear attack had been discussed; the renewed commitment by the United States President to seek ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty and his efforts to start negotiations on a fissile material cut-off treaty; and the announcement by the United States Secretary of State, at the current meeting, of greater transparency with respect to her country’s nuclear stockpile.

At its 6th meeting, on 25 May, the Commission held a panel discussion on “e-Science, e-Engineering, e-Education”, moderated by Andrew W. Reynolds, Deputy Science and Technology Adviser to the Secretary of State, United States Department of State.

In the Medical Services Section, the establishment of 15 additional national posts (6 National Officers and 9 national General Service staff) is proposed, as the Section has over the past years expanded the services it provides, which include round-the-clock operation of the UNOCI headquarters clinic, which is now functioning at level I-plus rather than the previous level I; patients are followed up at their homes after discharge from level III hospitals; patients are regularly visited in the 11 level III hospitals in Abidjan and in Sector West and Sector East; doctors in the regional headquarters perform outreach activity by visiting remote offices twice a week; support [...] [...]

As Secretary of State Clinton has said, we believe that, through good-faith negotiations, the parties can mutually agree on an outcome that ends the conflict and reconciles the Palestinian goal of an independent and viable State based on the 1967 lines, with agreed swaps, and the Israeli goal of a Jewish State with secure and recognized borders that reflect subsequent developments.

During the reporting period, a number of important international and national events were held, including: (a) public hearings on the subject of the contribution of women’s business activity to overcoming poverty through the establishment of the non-governmental social services market in the context of implementing the United Nations Millennium Declaration; (b) the President of the Confederation participated in the first international Libyan conference on women and law and accepted an invitation from the Supreme Council of Bahraini Women to participate in the meeting of Russian business women and representatives of the Association of Business Women of Bahrain.
