As we have repeatedly stated before this Assembly, the support and solidarity extended to the Palestinian people and their just cause from countries, brothers, sisters, friends and international and regional organizations from around the world has been invaluable and essential for the steadfastness and resilience of the Palestinian people over the many long years of oppression, suffering and struggle to achieve their legitimate national aspirations and inalienable human rights, including their rights to selfdetermination and to freedom.

He is furthermore a tireless and dedicated educator, and has been involved in numerous projects with young musicians in Asia: he was chief conductor of the NTSO Taiwan-China Youth Orchestra in 2009 and 2010, an initiative which brought together the best young musicians from China and Taiwan, leading them in high-profile concerts at the national concert halls of Beijing and Taipei.

In conclusion, it is obviously important that the Afghan Government and its international partners, including Australia, remain committed to and focused, with fortitude and resolve, to use the words of Ambassador Tanin, on the task at hand: fighting the insurgency, combating corruption, and improving governance and the delivery of essential services to the Afghan people.

Moreover, we reaffirm the enduring resilience of the Palestinian people, in spite of the formidable challenges facing them, to realize their inalienable rights, including their rights to self-determination and to return, and to fulfil their legitimate national aspirations to live in peace, freedom, dignity and prosperity in their independent State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and in harmony with their neighbours.

More needs to be done, more systematically, and with greater persistence; in the area of education in particular that is, without contest, the key to the achievement of several development goals.

Since 2002, HKSH has been an active supporter of wide-ranging charity activities, among them are the Oxfam Trailwalker, the Community Chest, the World Heart Day, the Operation Santa Claus (a yearly charitable event co-organized by the South China Morning Post and RTHK), and the Pink Ball of the Hong Kong Hereditary Breast Cancer Family Registry, etc. In recent years, the Hospital has been encouraging its staff members to take part in voluntary services after work.

With the general theme of “The Harmony of Civilizations and Prosperity for All”, Beijing Forum has held several lectures and dialogues in addition to the annual conference, including the lecture of Prof. Noam Chomsky of MIT at PKU, the lecture of Prof. Homi Bhabha of Harvard University at PKU, the dialogue between Justin Yifu Lin and Nobel Laureates in Economics of Roger Myerson and James Mirrlees, Islamic-Confucian Dialogue, the Christian–Confucian Dialogue, Dialogue on Axial-Age Civilizations, etc.

We are steady in our resolve and intend to come through the current industry crisis in better shape than ever, poised to resume the successful growth of the airline once economic conditions show signs of improvement.
