At the meeting held in parallel to its 20th meeting, on 7 July, the Council continued the general debate of its high-level segment and heard statements by Gyan Chandra Acharya, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations (on behalf of the Group of Least Developed Countries); Mohamad Cissé, SecretaryGeneral of the Ministry of International Cooperation, Guinea; Pablo Cevallos Estarellas, Vice-Minister for Education of Ecuador; and Benjalug Namfa, Inspector General, Ministry of Education of Thailand.

The company’s proposed nickel mining project would cover 11,218 hectares and span four towns, including watershed areas and the legally recognized ancestral domain of the Mangyan indigenous peoples.28 Mangyan protesters and their advocates went on a hunger strike in late 2009 until the Department of Environment and Natural Resources revoked the environmental compliance certificate for large-scale mining issued earlier to Intex Resources.

Other presentations were made by Ertuğrul Apakan, Permanent Representative of Turkey to the United Nations, speaking in his capacity as the representative of the host country of the Conference; Anda Filip, Permanent Observer of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to the United Nations, on the parliamentary track of the Conference and preparatory process; Arjun Karki, Chair of the Civil Society Organization Steering Committee, on the civil society track; Gavin Power, Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact Office, on the private sector track; and Gyan Chandra Acharya, Permanent Representativeof Nepal to the United Nations, speaking in his capacity as Chair of the Global Coordinating Bureau of the Group of Least Developed Countries (see paras. 20-51).

The fall program considered self-organization in the field of cultural production, presenting seminars and workshops with Rirkrit Tiravanija, Zhang Wei and Hu Fang, Natascha Sadr Haghighian and Raqs Media Collective.

Following the presentation by the Special Representative, the Permanent Representative of Nepal, Ambassador Gyan Chandra Acharya, stated that the Mission had been a positive factor in the difficult context of the peace process and expressed sincere appreciation for its dedication and contributions.

I have the honour to refer to the letter dated 5 May 2010 from Gyan Chandra Acharya, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations, in which he requested, on behalf of his Government, the extension of the current mandate of the United Nations Mission in Nepal from 15 May until 15 September 2010 (see annex).

In 2012, the purpose of reactivating folk materials ties me and my jaded stories back to Shanghai, a city neither she nor I is familiar with.
