A major innovation in the field of translation was the publication online of the Index Translationum’s database, with the installation of a computer tool for the use of translation statistics as cultural indicators, the publication of the 9th cumulative edition on CD-ROM and the preparation of the 10th edition, integrating some 80,000 new bibliographic entries.

A timetable for the elaboration of draft document 35 C/5 leading to its adoption by the General Conference at its 35th session is attached as Annex I. This timetable indicates the various steps involved, including the consultations with the National Commissions in the five regions and at the cluster level, and comments received from Member States, Associated Members, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, the results of which will be submitted in a synthesized form, together with the Director-General’s preliminary proposals for consideration by the Executive Board at its 180th session (October 2008).

In responding on how the results of the demonstration project will be disseminated, locally, regionally and globally, the World Bank explained that FECO will utilize domestic workshops, information materials (Foam Sector Plan) and network meetings to pass on the results and experiences gained in the implementation of the demonstration project and will also utilize contracts with enterprises to inform them of the costs and benefits of the technology.

In addition, the competent Austrian authorities will apply specific Austrian legislation in implementing the restrictive measures such as the War Materials Act (Federal Law Gazette I No. 57/2001 as amended), the Foreign Trade Act (Federal Law Gazette I No. 50/2005 as amended), the Foreign Trade Regulation (Federal Law Gazette II No. 121/2006), the Austrian Exchange Control Act (Federal Law Gazette I No. 123/2003), the Austrian Aliens Police Law (Federal Law Gazette I No. 157/2005 as amended) and the Law on Residence (Federal Law Gazette I No. 100/2005 as amended).

That this Council urges the Government to comprehensively review the West Kowloon Cultural District development project, consider the ‘software’ contents before planning the cultural facilities, extend the deadline for submission of development proposals, openly and thoroughly consult the cultural sector, professional bodies, the real estate sector, the Legislative Council, the public and relevant organizations, and uphold the ‘people-oriented’, ‘partnership’ and ‘community-driven’ principles put forward by the Culture and Heritage Commission for the West Kowloon development in formulating a development and operation plan that is open, fair and proper; and in the process of development, the Government should also facilitate a partnership between developers and the cultural sector, so as to allow the latter to participate in the planning and future operation of the facilities in the district.

The updated Model Strategies and Practical Measures build on the measures adopted by Governments in the Platform for Action, which was adopted in 1995 and subsequently reaffirmed in 2000 and 2005, the Model Strategies and Practical Measures on the Elimination of Violence against Women in the Field of Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice adopted in 1997,c and relevant General Assembly resolutions, including Assembly resolutions 61/143 and 63/155, bearing in mind that some groups of women are especially exposed and vulnerable to violence.
