Finally, let me reiterate again the United Kingdom’scommitment to work with all partiesin support of a stable, prosperous and democratic Kosovo that enjoys genuine cooperation with all countries in the Western Balkans as they all move towards the EU.

As the Security Council is aware, the United Nations andthe African Union are working with the parties to develop a new road map for peace in Darfur, whose aim is to put an end to hostilities and to make the peace process more inclusive.

In addition, steps were taken to increase the secretariat’s resource mobilization and partnership capabilities and to enhance relations with partners and donors in order to strengthen longer-term foundations for future cooperation.

Gaps and challenges in relation to supporting countries to advance their national priorities under the UNIFEM thematic areas include: linking capacitybuilding of political aspirants to actual changes in the percentage of women elected, and further translating these gains into improved public-service delivery for women through increased accountability; increasing work withpolitical parties to make the issue of violence against women candidates and leaders more visible and to strengthen partnerships with other actors that are supporting efforts to confront this challenge; and strengthening programmaticand policy responses to bring attention and action to the gender dimensions of HIV and AIDS.

Some States expressed their general willingnessto cooperate with States and regional fisheries management organizations and arrangementsto clarify the role of the “genuine link” in relation to the duty of States to exercise effective control over fishing vessels flying their flags.

To this end the Committee recommends that it continue to review regularly the status of implementation of the resolution, work with States and international, regional and subregional organizations in a transparent and cooperative manner characterized by dialogue and information sharing and offer regular opportunities for States which are not members of the Committee and other entities to express their views to the Committee, upon its request.
