We do not believe that the arrangements that are proposed in this Bill will be unduly restrictive or will interfere with the funding of taxi purchases, but I can assure Members that they will be very, very carefully monitored and if problems do arise they will be tackled early.

The Conference encouraged the Secretariat to seek feedback from member countries on the conduct of the Regional Conference, with a view towards enhancing the organization and efficiency of future sessions, maximizing opportunities for exchange among ministers and other delegates, and striking a balance between discussion of technical issues and programme and policy matters.

In that context, and as members will have noted in the letter of the Secretary-General dated 3 March 2009 addressed to the President of the Security Council (S/2009/128), the United Nations intends to review its presence on the ground in order to provide more consistent and better coordinated support for the implementation of the dialogue’s recommendations.

The Commission encouraged members and observers that had submitted comments in writing or orally at the session to submit these comments at Step 6 of the Procedure.

In their statements, delegates reviewed the progress made in the implementation of the Brussels Programme of Action, identified challenges encountered, and put forward ideas and proposals to address those challenges.

I wish to draw the attention of members to document S/2010/429, containing the twenty-first progress report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Mission in Liberia.

It also encourages the State party to consider inviting the Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights to visit the country and extending invitations to other special rapporteurs dealing with economic, social and cultural rights, in order to benefit from their expertise in developing policies that address the Committee’s concerns.

The Commission should reconsider the present practice of leaving the formulation of commentaries to draft articles to the respective Special Rapporteurs alone and discussing those commentaries only at the time of approval of the Commission’s Annual Report, under pressure to finish the latter and without sufficient time for members to study the commentaries carefully.

The Executive Secretary, recalling Commission resolution 64/5 on the establishment of the Forum of Asian Ministers of Transport, stated that it was timely for transport ministers in the region to meet and discuss not only how to address the current financial crisis but also how to promote the foundations for more inclusive and sustainable development in the region, which would also contribute towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals.

In preparation for the next meeting of the Abyei Joint Oversight Committee, the Government of the Sudan co-chair, Alkheir Alfaheem Almaki, along with the President of the Sudan and Government ministers, reviewed the necessary practical arrangements that must be taken in order to meet the administrative and financial requirements for the implementation of the decisions of the Committee.

A key test of UN-Women’s effectiveness is its ability to work with United Nations leaders in these venues at global, regional and country levels to support and monitor their efforts to achieve current gender equality commitments, as well as to set additional indicators and targets for enhancing the United Nations performance, support and investment in gender equality at all levels.
