Thus, they underlined the following persisting challenges: lack of coherence in the focus and format for gender mainstreaming policies and activities; minimum system-wide standards and indicators for implementation, thus resulting in different levels of attention given to gender equality in each entity’s planning; and inadequate use of intersectoral synergies to obtain maximum impact of efforts carried out by United Nations entities in individual areas of action.

As stated in its Medium-Term Strategy for 2002-2007 (31 C/4) the Organization is firmly committed to mainstreaming throughout all its programmes the needs and requirements of the LDCs, in particular by “targeting the most disadvantaged groups (women and youth) and identifying specific actions for them; spreading and replicating successful examples of alternatives to traditional formal education; encouraging the use of science and technology in order to improve material living conditions in the LDCs; using culture as a political lever for poverty alleviation (promoting artistic creation, developing cultural industries and intellectual property rights); and fostering the development of LDCs and their access to ICTs”.

In this regard, several delegations were of the view that mechanisms and additional resources should be identified to support participation of developing countries in the work of such a Task Force and that participation of developing countries was to be ensured, especially for those countries that already "graduated" from the Codex Trust Fund.

The focus of the IE OP is to increase the number of innovations by increasing R&D outlays, the development of cooperation between the R&D sphere and businesses, as well as diversifying entrepreneurship potential.

The Committee on Statistics at its second session, held in Bangkok from 15 to 17 December 2010, reviewed a range of issues of strategic importance to statistics development in the Asian and Pacific region, and agreed to work towards the goals of (a) ensuring that, by 2020, all countries in the region have the capability to generate a basic range of population, economic, social and environment statistics, and (b) creating a more adaptive and cost-effective information management environment for national statistical offices through stronger collaboration.
