This late-17th-century volume in Arabic is a Euchologion, the prayer book and book of ritual for the Byzantine Rite.

Decision required: The Executive Board is invited to express its gratitude to Member States that have paid their contributions for the year 2006 and to those that have made efforts to reduce their arrears of contributions in response to appeals, recall that the prompt payment of contributions is an obligation incumbent on Member States, and appeal to Member States in arrears on payment plans to settle their outstanding instalments and regular assessed contributions.

Her delegation thus strongly supported retaining the language in paragraphs 2 and 3 of the draft resolution and called on all delegations to reject the proposed amendment.

At Headquarters, various steps have been/are being taken to: (i) strengthen the role of BFC, as the voice of the field at Headquarters, in staffing and resourcing terms; (ii) introduce the functions of regional field office focal points at mid- to senior-GS level, under the authority of the EOs of each sector as primary focal and entry points for the field in each sector; and (iii) enhance cooperation between BFC and ERC in terms of both the political and protocol backstopping of ERC staff for relevant situations encountered in the field and also of the all-important cooperation with National Commissions.

Israel’s continuation of such illegal policies and practices, in addition to its continuing illegal, inhumane and shameful blockade of the Gaza Strip and the immeasurable suffering and trauma it is inflicting on the 1.5 million civilians imprisoned there, constitutes yet further irrefutable evidence of the occupying Power’s abject disregard for international law, including humanitarian and human rights law, as well as its rejection of the legitimate, inalienable and internationally recognized rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and freedom in their homeland.

MOST contributed to fostering policy responses to mitigate the negative social consequences of the financial crisis through a series of high-level fora: first, through a parallel event jointly organized by MOST and the Human Science Research Council of South Africa within the framework of the World Social Science Forum (Bergen, Norway, May 2009); secondly, through the thematic sessions addressing the issue at the Seventh Regional Forum of Ministers of Social Development for Latin America and the Caribbean (Quito, Ecuador, August 2009); and thirdly during the ninth session of the MOST Intergovernmental Council, on 29 September 2009.

As we are scrutinizing this Bill in this Chamber today, we have to consider how we should respond to these long-standing small wishes of these families, parents and children, which warrant our respect, that is, to lay down in the objects of a publicly-funded educational institution this minimum requirement so that when people, the education authorities and education practitioners see this in the future, they can reflect on whether more efforts should be made.

The Legal Committee did however consider that the drafting of certain articles could be improved so as to make them more precise and/or to comply with the usual rules of treaty law.

In his message of 15 December, the Secretary-General of Fretilin, Mari Alkatiri, called for the Timorese to unite to defend the Constitution’s principles and the democratic rule of law and to reject the use of violence for obtaining political power, and appealed for 2011 to be the year of building trust among all Timorese and of national solidarity.

The expression “may, however, be included” reflects the optional nature of this divergent practice, whereas the final qualification “if no contracting State or contracting organization is opposed in a particular case” safeguards the application of the principle established in paragraph 1 should any one contracting State or contracting organization be opposed to that inclusion.

Similarly, the formulation “relations between States under a treaty”, found in article 1, is drawn from article 2, subparagraph (c), of the Vienna Convention, and places the focus on the relations existing under the treaty regime in question, thereby making it possible to distinguish the treaty relations between States, which are included within the scope of the draft articles, from the relations between States and international organization or between international organizations arising under the same treaty, which are excluded from the scope of the articles.

They reiterated their call for the peaceful resolution of the Somali conflict as the only way to a durable peace and genuine reconciliation and called upon all parties that had not yet joined the political process to do so, and urged the Somali stakeholders to take expeditious action and show progress in the accomplishment of the remaining tasks of the transitional period including the drafting and approval of the Constitution as well as expanding the authority of the state, promoting the reconciliation process and improving the livelihood of the population by providing essential services.
