For example, to promote knowledge for sustainable development through ICTs, UNESCO, in cooperation with EOLSS Publishers Co Ltd, has been developing the Encyclopaedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS), the world’s largest knowledge base on sustainable development, for which universities in least developed countries and many institutions in developing countries have free access.

The Coordinating Committee also agreed that these experimental sessions should be based on certain key principles, including: that participation would be on a voluntary basis, particularly as concerns States Parties that would be the subject of a national focus; that the overarching purpose of each session would be to seek cooperative means to support implementation; and, that there would be no report produced attributing views to any participant or revealing participants’ affiliations.

As regards activities under the “ethics of science and technology, in particular bioethics”, the suggestion was made to place more emphasis on information and sensitization of the public-at-large and decision-makers, on the development of further normative instruments, on the promotion of ethics education, on the ethics of the use of science and technology, capacity-building and on multidisciplinary action.
