To improve the economic participation of minorities, special attention should be paid to monitoring the equity of budget allocations in regions where there are significant minority populations and to special measures or other policy initiatives that address discrimination against minorities in access to education and training, employment, financial services, social security and land tenure and property rights.

The representative of UNAIDS recalled the successful convening of the AsiaPacific High-level Intergovernmental Meeting on the Assessment of Progress against Commitments in the Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS and the Millennium Development Goals in Bangkok from 6 to 8 February 2012, which had brought together member States, some of which had included representatives of key affected populations in their national delegations, and representatives of civil society, including faith-based organizations, to review progress, exchange good practices and address barriers to universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support.

Organized by the Private Sector Steering Committee, led by the United Nations Global Compact in coordination with the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and the Small Island Developing States, the private sector track of the Conference convened more than 500 chief executives and senior business representatives with leaders from Government, civil society and the United Nations to elevate the role of private sector investment in the sustainable development of the least developed countries.

They explored ways to reconstruct peace and build a collective memory through education and textbooks, and highlighted the importance of integrating genocide education into curricula in post-conflict and post-genocidal countries to enhance genocide prevention, national reconciliation and peacebuilding.
