Under the Working and Rest Time Act, the following categories of workers have reduced working time: employees who perform underground work, work that poses a health hazard or work of a special nature — up to seven hours per day or thirty-five hours per week; teachers and educators working in schools and other child care institutions, and other persons working in the area of education, and psychologists and speech therapists working on the basis of employment contracts entered into with a provider of health care services — up to seven hours per day or thirty-five hours per week.

The feasibility study submitted to the Executive Board at its 166th session (166 EX/15), stressed, among other things, that the purposes and functions of the International Institute for Opera and Poetry (IIOP) are in keeping with UNESCO’s objectives, in particular regarding the promotion and dissemination of knowledge in the field of the world lyrical heritage; the promotion of education and training for artists working in the fields of opera and poetry, and in particular for young people of talent; the promotion of initiatives internationally, nationally and locally in these two key areas; and the promotion of new contemporary creative works, particularly those serving as media for new types of multicultural exchange.

In paragraph 2 (b) of Article 4, the Convention requires each party to take the appropriate measures to “ensure the availability of adequate disposal facilities for the environmentally sound management of hazardous or other wastes, that shall be located, to the extent possible, within it, whatever the place of their disposal”, while in paragraph 2 (c) it requires each party to, “ensure that persons involved in the management of hazardous wastes or other wastes within it take such steps as are necessary to prevent pollution due to hazardous wastes and other wastes arising from such management and, if such pollution occurs, to minimize the consequences thereof for human health and the environment”.

Lastly, it commended Costa Rica’s constant engagement with the promotion of human rights and the universal periodic review.

Simple actions which have been proven to make a difference in terms of transparency include: supporting local radio stations in vernacular languages, both as a means to reinforce the voice of local communities (by providing channels for conveying priorities and needs) and for education purposes (sharing budget information); promoting better dissemination of budget information; and promoting communication between institutions (e.g., by support for printing budget sheets and distributing them).

We welcome the definition of the “establishment” of a debtor (always a difficult concept to define, as shown, for example, by article 6 of the draft Code of Private International Law of Argentina, No. 2016-D-04) as any place of operations where the debtor carries out a non-transitory economic activity with human means and goods or services, the aim being to indicate whether the proceeding at issue is a non-main proceeding.

At its sixty-sixth session, the General Assembly invited the Conference on Disarmament to establish a working group under the agenda item as early as possible during its 2012 session; and urged States conducting activities in outer space and those interested in conducting such activities to keep the Conference on Disarmament informed of the progress of bilateral and multilateral negotiations on the matter (resolution 66/27).

The Committee requests the State party to include information in its next periodic report on the conditions of work of prisoners performing labour for private companies as well as on the measures taken to safeguard their labour rights, such as inspections.
