Report of the Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children, Joy Ngozi Ezeilo

On 27 June, the Permanent Representative of Nigeria and Chair of the Working Group on Peacekeeping Operations, Joy Ogwu, gave a briefing on the Group’s work.

The Committee adopted the decision as amended, and Choirokoitia was the first cultural property to be entered on the List of Cultural Property under Enhanced Protection.

For 2010, the Committee’s bureau consisted of U. Joy Ogwu (Nigeria) as Chair and the delegation of Japan as Vice-Chair (S/2010/2).

Following the meeting, the Council President, Ambassador U. Joy Ogwu of Nigeria, read a press statement (SC/9992) in which the Security Council welcomed the Kabul Conference communiqué, and recognized the conference as an important milestone in the Kabul process.

Joyce, Behan and Kavanagh raised pub-going to an art form, while Heaney, John B Keane, and O'Casey all immortalised the Irish boozer in their works.

There course will be hosted and moderated  by Language Campus Professor, Dr. Paul Pivec, invited guest moderator, Professor Dr. Maja Pivec (Editor, Reviewer, and highly published Author), with experts such as Associate Professor, Alison Clear (Past SIGCSE Chair, Conference reviewer, Author) and Associate Professor, Dr. Donald Joyce  (Author, previous chair of doctoral consortia, reviewer at ACM SIGCSE) participating in the Q & A sessions.

The Managing Director of the World Bank, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, also briefed the Council, stating that achieving the best results in peacebuilding required focusing on country context, partnership and accountability.

The Council will consider the report of the Special Rapporteur, Joy Ngozi Ezeilo Emekekwue (A/HRC/10/16).

The Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN-Women congratulated the members of the Executive Board elected on 10 November 2010 and the members of the Bureau elected at the organizational session of the Executive Board on 22 December 2010: as President, U. Joy Ogwu (Nigeria), and as Vice-Presidents, Zahid Rastam (Malaysia), Olha Kavun (Ukraine), Carmen Arias (Peru) and Magnus Lennartsson (Sweden).

Let me also commend and very warmly thank our colleague Ambassador Joy Ogwu for her able and wise stewardship of the Council during the previous month.

The outgoing President of the Bureau of the Executive Board of UN-Women, U. Joy Ogwu (Nigeria), opened the session with the results of the elections for the Bureau of the Board for the year 2012.

In accordance with the understanding reached in the Council’s prior consultations, I shall take it that the Security Council agrees to extend an invitation under rule 39 of its provisional rules of procedure to Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Managing Director of the World Bank.

The Secretary-General has the honour to transmit to the members of the General Assembly the interim report of the Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children, Joy Ezeilo, submitted in accordance with Human Rights Council resolution 17/1.

At the 20th meeting, on 12 March 2009, the Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children, Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, presented her report (A/HRC/10/16 and Corr.1).

For the first time, the president of Malawi, Her Excellency Mrs. Joyce Banda, recognized Special Olympics Malawi, stating in her speech that she appreciated the good job we are doing -- providing sports to people with intellectual disabilities.

It has thus sent invitations to the Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, Mr. Anand Grover, the Chair-Rapporteur of the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances, Mr. Jeremy Sarkin, the Special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, Mr. Juan Méndez, and the Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, Ms. Joy Ngozi Ezeilo.

This session commenced with the President of the Executive Board of UN-Women, H.E. Mrs. U. Joy Ogwu (Nigeria), welcoming the Executive Directors of UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF and UN-Women and the Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of WFP to the session and inviting them to take the floor.

Also as indicated in A/66/682/Add.1, ad litem Judge Marilyn Kaman declined, for personal reasons, to accept the extension of her appointment for an additional six-month period, approved by the General Assembly in resolution 65/251.
