This is "the desire to become more and more what one is, to become everything that one is capable of becoming.

That is seen by certain elements, particularly by the current head of the military, as a threat to their excesses and arbitrariness, and is leading them to commit the barbarous acts that are being carried out in Guinea-Bissau.
