In the Medical Services Section, the establishment of 15 additional national posts (6 National Officers and 9 national General Service staff) is proposed, as the Section has over the past years expanded the services it provides, which include round-the-clock operation of the UNOCI headquarters clinic, which is now functioning at level I-plus rather than the previous level I; patients are followed up at their homes after discharge from level III hospitals; patients are regularly visited in the 11 level III hospitals in Abidjan and in Sector West and Sector East; doctors in the regional headquarters perform outreach activity by visiting remote offices twice a week; support is provided to the Government during important functions and to the United Nations country team as part of the United Nations integrated framework; and medical support is proposed to be provided eight hours a day at the logistics base in Koumassi as opposed to the current two hours a day.

We have taken action to eliminate illiteracy and have implemented an intercultural policy by providing teaching materials in the original languages of our indigenous peoples.

The Assembly further called upon Israel to cease its destruction of vital infrastructure, including water pipelines and sewage networks, which had a negative impact on the natural resources of the Palestinian people; and requested the Secretary-General to report to the Assembly at its sixty-fifth session on the implementationof the resolution (resolution 64/185).

At its sixty-fourth session, the General Assembly, welcoming the first elections in Afghanistan run entirely under the responsibility of the Afghan authorities, stressed the central and impartial role of the United Nations in promoting peace and stability in Afghanistan, and requested the Secretary-General to report to the General Assembly every three months during its sixty-fourth session on developments in Afghanistan, as well as on the progress made in the implementation of the resolution (resolution 64/11).

Progress in proteomics has included: better understanding of how proteins are synthesized; fluctuations in their presence over time; better characterization of the system which ensuresthe premature termination of sequences that fail quality control; new tools toassist in the identification and quantification of proteins; increasing standardization of data reporting; improved tools for determining the structure of proteins; enhanced understandings of protein-protein interactions, such as through mapping, regulation, cross network comparisons and studying protein signalling cascades.

In conducting the evaluation, the evaluator carried out the following activities: (a) documentation review; (b) structured interviews with key ESCAP secretariat stakeholders, selected members of the Governing Council of APCICT, senior representatives of the Government of the Republic of Korea and the Incheon City administration, the permanent representatives in Bangkok of selected member States and representatives of other organizations; and (c) web-based electronic surveys of members and associate members of the Commission, APCICT national partners, Governing Council members and key ESCAP secretariat stakeholders.
