Luoyang
/ləʊˈjæŋ/- an industrial city in east central China, in Henan province on the Luo River; pop. 1,065,100 (est. 2006). Between the 4th and 6th centuries AD the construction of cave temples to the south of the city made it an important Buddhist centre.
