Lovelace¹, Augusta Ada King, Countess of (1815-52), English mathematician. The daughter of Lord Byron, she became assistant to Charles Babbage and worked with him on his mechanical computer.

Lovelace², Richard (1618-57), English poet. A Royalist, he was imprisoned in 1642, when he probably wrote his famous poem 'To Althea, from Prison'.
