kudos
/ˈkjuːdɒs/noun
mass noun
1- praise and honour received for an achievement荣誉, 声誉。
1.1
- informal, chiefly N. Amer. compliments or congratulations〈非正式, 主北美〉恭维话; 祝贺语:
kudos to everyone who put the event together.
对促成这项活动的所有人的祝贺。
USAGE
Kudos comes from Greek and means 'praise'. Despite appearances, it is not a plural form. This means that there is no singular form kudo and that use as a plural, as in the following sentence, is incorrect: he received many kudos for his work (correct use is he received a lot of kudos...).
词源
late 18th cent.: Greek.
