USAGE
In standard use, kind is used as a normal noun with a singular or a plural, as in the following examples: these kinds of questions are not relevant; this kind of question is not relevant. However, in the following example, kind does not become plural even though it is used with the plural determiner thesethese kind of questions are not relevant. The ungrammatical these kind (rather than these kinds) has been recorded since the 14th century and arose because the plural noun (here, questions) is treated as the head of the noun phrase, kind of being regarded almost as if it were a one-word adjective. In English, adjectives are invariable, i.e. they do not agree in number; by analogy kind of is also taken to be invariable. In the British National Corpus, the use these kind is found in 20 per cent of citations for this sense. See also usage at LOT.
