Jackanapes
/ˈdʒækəneɪps/noun
1
- dated an impertinent person〈旧〉自大而鲁莽的人。
2
- archaic a tame monkey〈古〉驯服的猴子。
词源
early 16th cent. (originally as Jack Napes): perhaps from a playful name for a tame ape, the initial n- by elision of an ape (compare with NEWT), and the final -s as in surnames such as Hobbes: hence applied to a person whose behaviour resembled that of an ape.
