Gunpowder Plot
- a conspiracy by a small group of Catholic extremists to blow up James I and his Parliament on 5 November1605（1605年11月5日发生的天主教少数极端分子企图炸死詹姆斯一世及其议会的）火药阴谋。
The plot is commemorated by the traditional searching of the vaults before the opening of each session of Parliament, and by bonfires and fireworks, with the burning of an effigy of Guy Fawkes, one of the conspirators, annually on 5 November.
