- historical a combustible composition emitted by a flame-throwing weapon, and used to set light to enemy ships. It was first used by the Greeks besieged in Constantinople (673-8). It ignited on contact with water, and was probably based on naphtha and quicklime.〈史〉 希腊火(一种由火焰投射器发射的合成易燃物, 用来点燃敌船, 最早由希腊人在君士坦丁堡被围时[公元637-638]使用, 触水即燃, 可能以石脑油和生石灰为主要成分)。
