WORD TRENDS
As with friend, the transformation of favourite into a verb is an Internet phenomenon. On the Web you can record the address of a particular site using an online bookmark, to allow you to find it quickly in the future. On Internet Explorer the bookmarks are called favorites, and the browser's dominance has led to the term being adopted as a synonym for bookmark (itself used in computing contexts since the 1980s) as both noun and verb: voting is open for another 17 days, so favourite the page and do it daily. The term can also refer to the process of tagging and collecting together your favourite online pictures, videos, or messages: I spent forever on Flickr searching out, and favouriting, examples of my newest passion.
