English Pale

- a small area round Calais, the only part of France remaining in English hands after the Hundred Years War. It was recaptured by France in 1558.法国境内的英国辖区（加来周围的一小块地区, 百年战争后唯一受英国控制的法国领土, 1558年被法国收复）。

- that part of Ireland over which England exercised jurisdiction before the whole country was conquered.
