Duma
/ˈduːmə/noun
- a legislative body in the ruling assembly of Russia and of some other republics of the former USSR国家杜马(俄罗斯及某些前苏联加盟共和国的立法机构)。
'Duma' originally denoted pre-19th century advisory municipal councils in Russia. It later referred to any of four elected legislative bodies established due to popular demand in Russia between 1906 and 1917. In 1993 a new Duma was set up as the lower chamber of the Russian parliament.
