Deng Xiaoping

- (1904-97) , Chinese communist statesman, Vice-Premier 1952-66,1973-6 and 1977-80; Vice-Chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party 1975-6 and 1977-81. Discredited during the Cultural Revolution, he was reinstated in 1977, becoming the effective leader of China.
