Courbet
/ˈkʊəbeɪ, 〈法〉 kʊʀbɛ/- Courbet, Gustave (1819-77), French painter. A leader of the 19th-century realist school of painting, he favoured an unidealized choice of subject matter that did not exclude the ugly or vulgar.
