Torquemada
/ˌtɔːkɪˈmɑːdə, 〈西〉torkeˈmaða/- Torquemada, Tomás de (c. 1420-98), Spanish cleric and Grand Inquisitor. A Dominican monk, he became confessor to Ferdinand and Isabella, whom he persuaded to institute the Inquisition in 1478.
