Tainan
/taɪˈnɑːn/- a city on the SW coast of Taiwan; pop. 764,700 (est. 2007). Settled from mainland China in 1590, it is one of the oldest cities on the island and was its capital from 1684 until 1885, when it was replaced by Taipei.
