There are two possible pronunciations of the word Caribbean. The first, found in the US and the Caribbean itself, puts the stress on the -rib-, while the second, more familiar to most British people, puts the stress on the -be-. In recent years the first pronunciation has gained ground in Britain as the more 'up-to-date' and, to some, the more 'correct' pronunciation. At present, both pronunciations are acceptable in standard British English.
