Middle English （originally denoting a heretic， specifically an Albigensian）： from Middle Dutch， from Old French bougre 'heretic'， from medieval Latin Bulgarus 'Bulgarian'， particularly one belonging to the Orthodox Church and therefore regarded as a heretic by the Roman Church.
