/ˈbrɪtən/- Britten, (Edward) Benjamin, Lord Britten of Aldeburgh (1913-76), English composer, pianist, and conductor. He founded the Aldeburgh festival with Peter Pears in 1948, and in 1976 became the first composer to be made a life peer.
