Ryukyu Islands
/rɪˈjuːkjuː/- a chain of islands in the western Pacific, stretching for about 960 km (600 miles) from the southern tip of the island of Kyushu, Japan, to Taiwan of China. Part of China in the 14th century, the archipelago was incorporated into Japan by 1879 and was held under US military control between 1945 and 1972.琉球群岛（太平洋西部的岛群, 自日本的九州岛南端向中国台湾延伸大约960公里, 即600英里; 14世纪时为中国的一部分, 1879年被日本吞并, 1945-1972年间由美国军队控制）。
