Polonnaruwa
/ˌpɒləˈnɑːrʊwə/- a town in NE Sri Lanka; pop. 13,900 (est. 2009). Succeeding Anuradhapura in the 8th century as the capital of Ceylon, it became an important Buddhist centre in the 12th century.
