Persia
/ˈpɜːʃə/- a former country of SW Asia, now called Iran波斯(亚洲西南部的一个古国, 现称伊朗)。
Under Cyrus the Great in the 6th century BC Persia became the centre of a powerful empire which included all of western Asia, Egypt, and parts of eastern Europe; it was eventually overthrown by Alexander the Great in 330 BC. The country was conquered by the Muslim Arabs between AD 633 and 651. It was renamed Iran in 1935.
