沙漠化 (desertification)指原由植物覆盖的土地变成不毛之地的现象。此处所指的「沙漠」多数强调土地不适合植物生长或发展农业，而非因为地域气候本身干燥所造成的沙漠（人为沙漠化）。根据中国国家林业局于2006年6月17日的公布，中国沙漠化土地达到173万9700平方公里，占国土面积18%以上，影响全国30个一级行政区（省、自治区、直辖市）。
