Agene process

The agene process is a former process for bleaching flour with agene (nitrogen trichloride). The practice was discontinued in 1947 once it became known that agene caused severe and widespread neurological disorders in humans. The denatured protein in the treated flour is toxic and causes hysteria in dog biscuits made from the flour which lead to the discovery of the problem for humans.
