Boskop is a village 16 km north of Potchefstroom, renowned as the site of the discovery in 1913 of the first fossil skull found in South Africa. Approved for a post office, Potchefstroom, and a station on the route Potchefstroom-Welverdiend, the name is Afrikaans and means 'bush hill'.
