It  was here from 1608 that the King's Men became resident artists after the Burbages acquired  a controlling influence in the management of Blackfriars.

Because the theater was so successful, more playhouses were constructed, starting with the Curtain, then James Burbage opened the Blackfriars Theater, then there was the Rose, built in 1587, and the Swan, built in 1595.
