Stictic acid

Stictic acid is an aromatic organic compound, a product of secondary metabolism in some species of lichens.

Stictic acid is the subject of medical research into cancer. Argentinian research showed that stictic acid extracted from Antarctic lichens has an apoptotic effect. Subsequent cancer research has found that the compound has tumor suppressing effects via action on mutant p53 proteins in cancer cells.
