直笛，在**称直笛或木笛，在中国大陆称竖笛，在香港称牧童笛，是一种木管乐器，直身长管，以边陵发声，是哨笛的一种。笛端有1个吹孔，吹孔以下有尖版开口，笛身有8至10个音孔，其中2个为半音孔，由口吹气至吹口的窄管，窄管的气撞到尖板，令空气震荡。直笛音色优美圆润，是巴洛克时代的标准独奏乐器。值得一提的是木笛一词并非因为历史上直笛大多以木制成，而是因为直笛的德文名字为Blockflöte，意指笛头内用塞木 (block) 做出以引导空气的管道，故命名为木笛。

标准直笛有8个音孔，通过按孔的不同组合可以得到2个至2个半八度以内的所有半音。现在的直笛是十二平均律乐器，可以吹奏包括大调、小调的24个调。因为音孔较少，在吹奏远关系调时，指法极为复杂。

The recorder is a woodwind musical instrument in the group known as internal duct flutes—flutes with a whistle mouthpiece.
