杵，原意为短木棒，为一个圆柱形棒状物，外形有时会做成一头粗一头尖。它在人类石器时代之前就已经存在，被各地人类广泛使用，可以被当成打猎用武器，或是拿来研磨瞉物之用。当拿来作为研磨与捣碎瞉物用时，经常会搭配臼来一起使用。也可以使用于舂米、捣药、捣衣或捣实砂土。

杵的材质可以是金属或木头，石头。中医经常使用杵来处理药材，现代仍然经常使用杵来处理食材。
