Socket A

Socket A 又称 Socket 462，是AMD中央处理器插座的一种，为了对抗Intel的Socket 370而推出。它拥有462个插孔，插入处理器时无需用力锁紧。它适用于AMD的Athlon K7至Athlon XP 3200+及低级的Duron及Sempron。有时FSB频率和电压规格的转变，会造成旧的芯片组无法支持新的处理器。

随着更多新型号处理器的开发，这款插座被新款插座所取代，有供Athlon 64和Sempron使用的Socket 754，和供Athlon 64及****使用的Socket 939。而AMD也宣布在2005年第二季起停止推出Socket A的处理器。

Socket A also supports AMD Geode NX embedded processors (derived from the Mobile Athlon XP). The socket is a zero insertion force pin grid array type with 462pins (nine pins are blocked in the socket to prevent accidental insertion of Socket 370 CPUs, hence the number 462). The front side bus frequencies supported for the AMD Athlon XP and Sempron are 133 MHz, 166 MHz, and 200 MHz. Socket A supports 32-bit CPUs only.
