大耳马鲛为辐鳍鱼纲鲈形目鲭亚目鲭科的其中一种，分布于西大西洋区，从加拿大至巴西圣保罗海域，本鱼腹鳍间的突起小而两裂，泳鳔不存在，侧线突然弯曲的向下在第二背鳍鳍之下，成鱼有没有黑色的区域在第一背鳍上的较前端，身体完全地覆盖着鳞片，背鳍硬棘12-18枚; 背鳍软条15-18枚;臀鳍硬棘2枚;臀鳍软条16-20枚;脊椎骨41-43个，体长可达184公分，栖息在沿岸海域，会进行回游，属肉食性，以鱼类、头足类为食，可做为食用鱼、游钓鱼。
