枕木

枕木亦称轨枕或路枕，是铁路路轨的组成部份之一，与路轨底部直接连接，能够稳定路轨的位置，以防止路轨在列车驶过时移位引起危险，也可将列车经过时所产生的压力，平均分布在于道碴之上，使列车行驶得更稳定。

昔日的铁路多数以木材作为枕木，因而得名。材料一般采用柚木，取其坚固耐用，并有天然防蛀物质，但由于供应稀少，现多以寿命约10年的软身柏木代替。近年的铁路开始改用一种名为「预应力钢筋混凝土枕」的混凝土枕，当中的「预应力」指预先施加与受力方向相反的拉力，可以更有效承受列车行驶时所产生的压力，而采用混凝土除了更为坚固，也可避免腐蚀的问题，延长其寿命。除了混凝土枕以外，也有重量较轻的玻璃纤维及塑胶材质枕木。
