公共交通（英：public transport；美：public transportation），或称大众运输（mass transit），泛指所有向大众开放、并提供运输服务的交通方式，通常是作为一种商业服务付费使用，但也有少数免费的例外状况。公共交通系统由通路、交通工具、站点设施等物理要素构成。广义而言，公共运输包括民航、铁路、公路、水运等交通方式；狭义的公共交通是指城市范围内定线运营的公共汽车及轨道交通、渡轮、索道等交通方式。如再进一步分类，公共运输包括人员与货物运输两个方面，而公共交通则只是指人员运输方面，且限于都市区范围的人员运输，在一些场合中，公共交通同义于公共运输。另外，出租车等具有公共交通特性的交通工具，被称为「共用交通」（或称准大众运输；en:Paratransit）。为公众提供快速运输服务的公共交通被称作大容量快速交通系统（mass rapid transit）；依照各地中文用法的不同，**称为「大众运输系统」或「大众运输工具」，中国大陆称为「快速公交」，香港则称为「集体运输系统」。此外，中国大陆流行将「公共交通」简称为「公交」，同时也将公共汽车、电车简称为「公交」，如北京的公共电、汽车会称为「北京公交」等。
