Southern Rhodesia, originally Matabeleland and Mashonaland, later became Zimbabwe and Northern Rhodesia was renamed Zambia.

The colonial  police accompanied a column of 62 wagons and civilian colonists deep into Mashonaland, founding  three settlements at Lowveld, Fort Victoria and Fort Charter (now Harare, Zimbabe).
